Well it has been a busy time since I was last here talking about myself!. This week we completed another arrangement for the Queensland Art Gallery Director. The event is a special fund raiser so everything has to be just right. The brief was to create something beautiful and organic looking in white to impress the guests. Maryrose and I came up with this.....

The construction involved wiring stick and branches with dodda vine to make a base in sections. There sections were then transported to the Art Gallery for final finishing on site. Each piece is around 1200 long and about 300 wide. The 4 sections were then wired together to create the 4 metre+ base. The flowers were then weaved through and around the base. As there is no water supply (floral foam - the green stuff) so the 'weaving' was done at the last minute before the guests arrived.

And just to prove that I can be hands on - here I am sweeping the floor - with a dustpan and brush..

Welcome to my Blog. This seems to be the thing that everyone is doing and I hate to miss out on the trend. For the people who dont know me my name is Martin Gay and along with Maryrose and Des we run FlowerTrap in the James Street Market in Fortitude Valley. Maryrose is the attractive girl in the pic and Des has a cheesy smile and a 3 day growth. We have all worked together for a long time and are like a little family. On the 1st of December I have owned FlowerTrap for 12 years.

The business was purchased from Sharon who has become my second mother and her devoted husband Charlie both of whom I am proud of for all sorts of reasons.

I needed a change from working for Qantas for 11 years and did everything from cargo, reservations, check-in and the Qantas Club at both the domestic and international airports. There is not very much that I have not seen or was called in that time which was a perfect training ground for Retail. For those that know me already know that I dont suffer fools and a whole range of other things most of these I dealt with on a daily basis at QF. I retain some strong ties with the staff at the 'drome' some are still there and others have moved onto bigger and better things - more about that later.

OMG99 is the personal number plate on my car. It was given to me as a Christmas gift. At the time I was not sure if it was an insult or not but I took in the manner if was given. To translate it's Oh My God 0r Oh (it's) Martin Gay or Oh My Goodness and the list goes on. I was searching for a blog name and Andrea - who has not computer skills at all - suggested OMG at dinner last week - so there you have it

I intend to showcase some of our work along with some people I know some of our lovely clients and suppliers - daily running and the odd drama along with some of the truly beautiful things that I come across in life
